After a long 12 years, legendary subcontinental singer Runa Laila has arrived in Sydney, Australia. Ever since she stepped foot at Sydney International Airport on Wednesday evening, July 29, a festive atmosphere has been prevailing among expatriate Bangladeshis.
The much-anticipated 'Bangladesh Night 2026' is set to take place on August 1 at Sydney's international-standard Norwest Convention Centre. As the main attraction of the event, the legendary artist will mesmerize the stage. Having the opportunity to sing before Australian audiences after a long 12 years, she shared her joy and feelings.
Earlier, Runa Laila participated in Sydney's 'Probash Poroboni Bengal Cultural Festival' in 2014. Additionally, her historic solo concert titled 'Sparkling Night with Runa Laila', held on March 18, 2007, at the Sydney Opera House concert hall—one of the world's most prestigious venues—remains memorable in the hearts of expatriate Bengalis to this day.
The organizers stated that this year's 'Bangladesh Night 2026' is not just a musical event; it is a unique endeavor to present Bengali culture and tradition to the new generation abroad.
At the event, 'Bengal Symphony' will perform alongside Runa Laila. In addition, popular artists famed from Coke Studio Bangla—Emon Chowdhury, Aleya Begum, Pintu Ghosh, Mithun Chakra, and Mridha Shiblu—will captivate the stage. Naznin Neha will also be present as a special guest.
The organizers hope that this return of Runa Laila after a long hiatus will deliver a historic cultural evening for expatriate music lovers in Sydney.
