Even three decades after his death, Salman Shah's popularity in Bangladeshi cinema has not waned. Instead, with time, his acting, clothing, hair style, and screen presence have become subjects of interest even to the new generation. Sunday, September 6, marks the 30th death anniversary of this popular actor.
Born on September 19, 1971, Salman Shah's real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon. He died on September 6, 1996, at the young age of 25. Within a career spanning only about four years, he carved out a distinct position for himself in 1990s Dhallywood.
He made his big screen debut in 1993 with the film 'Keyamat Theke Keyamat'. Afterward, he quickly gained popularity by acting in several films including 'Sotyer Mrittu Nei', 'Sujon Sokhi', 'Ei Ghor Ei Shongshor', and 'Anondo Osru'.
A Star Duo Formed in a Short Time
Salman Shah's pairing with Shabnur gained special popularity among audiences. Additionally, acting with actresses like Moushumi, Shabnaz, Lima, and Shahnaz further solidified his identity as a romantic hero.
Alongside films, Salman Shah had his own distinct style in clothing and hairstyles. A large section of youths in the nineties used to follow his fashion and hairstyle. That influence has been seen among subsequent generations in various ways.
Questions Have Not Faded Even Three Decades After Death
Alongside Salman Shah's popularity, the incident of his death has been a subject of discussion for a long time. On September 6, 1996, he was found unconscious at his residence in New Eskaton, Dhaka. Later, when taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he was declared dead.
Following his death, multiple investigations found no evidence of murder. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police mentioned the incident as suicide. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) announced the same conclusion in its 2020 probe.
However, Salman Shah's family has not accepted these conclusions. From the very beginning, members of his family have been claiming his death to be a homicide.
A New Chapter in Cases and Investigations
After a long time, in October 2025, a Dhaka court ordered the filing of a murder case over Salman Shah's death. In this context, a case was filed against 11 people including his former wife Samira Haque, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, and actor Ashraful Haque Don.
The case is currently under investigation. In August of this year, actor Ashraful Haque Don was arrested in this case. The deadline for submitting the investigation report has been extended several times. Most recently, September 29 has been set as the date for submitting the report.

Salman Shah's film career was not long. But the impact created by his acting and personality in a short time has survived 30 years after his death. His acted films still generate interest among audiences, and his memory and work are regularly discussed on social media.
