Tejgaon Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Fazlul Karim stated that some handwritten notes by Mariam were recovered from the room where she lived. However, forensic testing will confirm whether Mariam herself is the author of these notes.
One note mentions being deceived due to trusting someone excessively. Another compares her relationship with her husband to a war, stating that she lost because of a breach of trust. It includes remarks about smiling even at the edge of her own destruction, and that the reason for that smile could one day become the cause of destruction for the other party.
In another note, Mariam referred to Gazi Nazrul Islam as another woman's husband and described her own decision as a mistake. Another writing features statements that love is not something to be shared, and that losing someone is more honorable than getting them only halfway.
On Sunday evening, Mariam's hanging body was recovered from a flat in Building No. 5 of the NAM flats, located opposite the Parliament Building. The case statement mentions that Gazi Nazrul Islam lived in that flat with his first wife, Maksuda Islam, and second wife, Mariam.
Case of Abetment to Suicide
Following Mariam's death, her father, S. M. Masum Billah, filed a case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station charging abetment to suicide. The accused in the case are Gazi Nazrul Islam, his first wife Maksuda Islam, and Mariam's maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman.
The case statement alleges that Mariam married Gazi Nazrul in June through the direct instigation of Obaidur Rahman. After the marriage, they lived together at the NAM flat residence. The case also includes allegations that Gazi Nazrul and Maksuda physically and mentally tortured Mariam over various issues, which she had informed her family members about.
According to the case details, around 5:30 PM on Sunday, Gazi Nazrul called Mariam's father and asked him to rush to the residence. Upon going there, he saw Mariam hanging by the neck in a room.
Later, police arrived at the scene and recovered the body. CID members examined the crime scene, and the body was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Preparations for Remand
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station officials stated that Gazi Nazrul Islam and Maksuda Islam will be shown arrested in the case, and a seven-day remand will be sought for them. Necessary preparations have been made in this regard.
Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Md. Ibne মিজান stated that the Speaker has been informed about the arrest of the Member of Parliament.
The cause of Mariam's death, the actual author of the notes, and the truth of the allegations brought in the case will be confirmed through investigation.
