Supporters of Pakistan's former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan are starting a long march toward Islamabad to demand his release. Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohel Afridi announced that the program would begin on Sunday, October 4, from Lakki Marwat in the province.
According to a report by Dawn, the first phase of the journey will start at 1 PM local time from Gandi Chowk in Lakki Marwat. Leaders and activists from Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, South and North Waziristan, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat are set to join. The procession is then planned to move toward Peshawar via Karak and Kohat.
Sohel Afridi has urged party activists and the general public to participate in the program in large numbers. PTI claims that this movement aims to secure the release of Imran Khan as well as to have the party's political demands accepted.
To block the long march, the Government of Pakistan has placed containers on major roads leading to Islamabad, disrupting traffic movement. Security has also been beefed up in the capital, causing extensive disruptions to freight transport and truck movement.
