US President Donald Trump has again threatened military action against Iran, stating that Washington could launch an attack on Iran as early as Sunday if it chooses to do so. However, he did not rule out the possibility of reaching a 'big and wonderful' agreement with Tehran at the same time.
While speaking to journalists on Saturday regarding the potential strike, Trump said, 'We are thinking about doing it, maybe tomorrow.' However, he did not clarify whether a final decision on military action had been made. Instead, responding to reporters' questions, he asked if they thought he would announce in advance what he was going to do.
According to Trump, Iran could avoid new military action if it manages to reach an agreement with the United States. However, he expressed skepticism over whether Tehran would abide by such a deal.
The US president claimed that his primary objective is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Previously, the US carried out strikes on Iran using B-2 bombers. However, Trump believes that operation was not sufficient to ensure long-lasting results, commenting that achieving the goal must be guaranteed.
Trump did not announce any final decision regarding the next steps in the conflict with Iran, keeping both paths of military operation and negotiated settlement open. In his words, ultimately either he will have to bring the situation to an end, or Iran must come to an agreement. He claimed that whichever way the situation proceeds, victory will belong to the United States.
