Mahadi Hasan, member secretary of the Habiganj district branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has been taken into police custody. Police picked him up on Monday afternoon from a protest program in Habiganj organized against the hike in gas and electricity prices and load shedding.

It is known that he was taken in a police van from the field in front of the district headquarters Court Mosque to the Sadar Model Police Station. Several of his workers and supporters were with him at the time. They had gathered there to stage a demonstration under the banner of 'People from All Walks of Life' in protest against the increased gas and electricity prices and load shedding. Police from the Sadar Model Police Station went there and initially requested Mahadi to accompany them. When he showed reluctance, he was dragged and forced into the vehicle.

No official statement has been received yet from the Habiganj district police regarding this matter. However, while taking him to the station, Sadar Model Police Station OC Zahidur Rahman was heard telling journalists in response to a sudden question that Mahadi was taken into custody for security reasons. On January 1, when a young man named Enamul Hasan Noyon was detained at the Shaistaganj Police Station in Habiganj, Mahadi Hasan went there. At that time, allegations arose that he publicly threatened the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shaistaganj Police Station by stating, 'We had burned down Baniachong Police Station, and we had set SI Santosh on fire.' Following that incident, police arrested him. However, Mahadi Hasan was released on bail within 24 hours in the face of movement pressure.
