Reacting to the verdict, Awami League Presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak strongly condemned and protested the ruling, labeling the court an 'illegal kangaroo court' and describing it as a conspiracy to eradicate the Awami League.

The International Crimes Tribunal delivered the verdict sentencing seven individuals, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, to death in a crimes against humanity case stemming from the July uprising. Within an hour of the verdict announcement, a cocktail explosion took place in front of the Supreme Court.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 15, between 1:15 PM and 1:20 PM near the entrance used by the Chief Justice and other judges of the Supreme Court.

Confirming the incident, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman stated that authorities are verifying who hurled the cocktail and fled. Investigation and legal action will be taken against those involved.

Earlier, a three-member judicial panel of International Crimes Tribunal-2, led by Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, handed down the death penalty to seven leaders of the Awami League and its affiliated and associated organizations.

Among those sentenced to death are Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parosh, General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan. All seven convicted defendants are currently fugitives.
