Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced that police officers who play a role in bringing leaders and associates of the banned Awami League under the law will be rewarded.

He made this statement while serving as the chief guest at the Police Week-2026 medal-awarding ceremony at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in the capital on Saturday.

The Home Minister said that effective use of police intelligence must be ensured to identify individuals associated with the Awami League who can be brought under the law. He also reiterated that successful police officers in this endeavor will be rewarded.

Salahuddin Ahmed mentioned that two such individuals were arrested last week and another on Friday. He commented that although they had been staying inside the country all this time, there is a need to make intelligence operations regarding them even more effective.

Meanwhile, the Home Minister stated that legal action will be taken against individuals attempting to create instability in the country. In his speech, he also raised the contexts of recent violence and various allegations of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and custodial deaths over the past 17 years.

Regarding the repatriation of convicted fugitives including Sheikh Hasina, Salahuddin Ahmed said that they have been formally requested from the neighboring country in accordance with the extradition treaty. He also mentioned that if the concerned individuals voluntarily return to the country and face the law, action will be taken accordingly.

During the event, 98 police members were awarded PPM and BPM medals. Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, and other high-ranking officials were present at the time.
