The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been increased once again. According to the new decision, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder by Tk 252 to set it at Tk 1,837. This new pricing was fixed on Sunday, October 4.
According to the newly fixed price, the cost of a 12 kg LPG cylinder has risen from Tk 1,585 to Tk 1,837. Previously, in the month of September, the price of a 12 kg cylinder was reduced by Tk 13 to Tk 1,585. Prior to that, the price of this cylinder was Tk 1,598.
However, there are allegations that LPG is being sold in the market at prices higher than the government-fixed rate. At the retail level, in many cases, 12 kg cylinders have been sold at prices close to Tk 2,000.
With this fresh price hike, the pressure of expenses is likely to increase for LPG-using households as well as in the transport and various business sectors.
