Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has embarked on his first visit to Khulna since assuming office. On Thursday at around 10:30 AM, he landed at a temporary helipad on the grounds of Nalian Secondary School in Sutarkhali Union under Dacope Upazila of Khulna, traveling by an Air Force helicopter. Later, at approximately 10:45 AM, the Prime Minister departed by waterway from the Nalian Launch Ghat toward Mongla in Bagerhat.

The visit highlights the tourism potential of the Sundarbans, the enhancement of Mongla Port's commercial capacity, and the expansion of industrialization and investment in the southwestern region. According to the itinerary, he observed Hiron Point of the Sundarbans and surrounding areas from the helicopter. Afterward, he landed in Nalian, Dacope, and headed toward Mongla by waterway.

Upon reaching Mongla, the Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in a designated meeting at the naval base, as well as inspect the jetties of Mongla Port and the proposed economic zone of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA). In addition, the potential construction of a proposed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal at Akram Point is receiving significant focus in the visit's discussions.

The modernization of Mongla Port, the expansion of import-export trade, and the necessity of establishing new industrial factories to harness the economic potential of the southwestern region have been under discussion for a long time. According to relevant experts, if port-centric trade, industrialization, and tourism are developed, it will create opportunities to generate employment and strengthen the local economy in this region.

This visit by the Prime Minister has generated high expectations among the residents, business owners, and political leaders and activists of Khulna and Bagerhat. Locals hope that through this visit, effective initiatives will be taken to resolve long-standing developmental issues in the southwestern region, attract new investments, and increase employment.

Following the conclusion of the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Dhaka by helicopter in the afternoon.
