Several job seekers were staging a hunger strike in front of Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University on Thursday night to protest their omission from the 45th BCS gazette. Among them, four individuals were handed over to the police by a Chhatra Dal leader on suspicion of being involved with the banned Chhatra League.

According to the police, the four detainees are Ferdous Khan, former joint secretary of the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall branch of Chhatra League at Dhaka University, Ekram Gazi Hridoy, former vice-president of the Amar Ekushey Hall branch, Habibul Islam, deputy general secretary of the Ashraful Haque Hall branch of Chhatra League at Bangladesh Agricultural University, and Moniruzzaman Monir, education and study circle secretary of the same hall branch.

Nasir Uddin Shawon, senior joint general secretary of the Dhaka University branch of Chhatra Dal, handed them over to the police around 12:30 AM on Thursday. He told the media that upon learning that four leaders of the banned Chhatra League were on a hunger strike at Raju Sculpture, he caught them and handed them over to the police.

The hunger strike by those deprived of inclusion in the 45th BCS gazette began on Thursday afternoon. Their program was in protest of being omitted from the gazette despite participating in a long, competitive examination. In such a situation, the incident of handing over four job seekers who went on a hunger strike to fulfill their demands to the police on suspicion of Chhatra League ties has sparked new discussions. However, no information was found confirming that the allegations against them have been proven.

Kamal Uddin, sub-inspector and in-charge of the Nilkhet police outpost, said that the police went to the scene via the Dhaka University proctorial team. After confirming that the four detainees were office-bearing leaders of the banned Chhatra League, they were taken to Shahbagh police station for questioning. Legal action will be taken against them following scrutiny.
