Police have filed a general diary (GD) following a verbal altercation between independent Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-2 Rumeen Farhana and Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manzur Kader Bhuiyan. The GD was lodged after the MP went to the police station and engaged in a heated exchange with the OC.
It is learned that the GD mentions the individuals who accompanied Rumeen Farhana to the police station. However, there are discrepancies between the accounts provided by the lawmaker's side and the police.
Supporters of Rumeen Farhana alleged that despite attempts to contact the OC regarding various matters, they received no response. They claimed that even when trying to reach him regarding security concerns, he did not pick up the phone, which prompted the MP's camp to express dissatisfaction.
On the other hand, Rumeen Farhana stated that she went to the police station to discuss a two-page list of allegations brought against her. According to her statement, an argument ensued with the OC over the matter, and her purpose for being at the station was to address those allegations.
The incident has generated local discussion. Following the police filing the GD, the lawmaker's side is also taking initiatives to lodge a complaint with senior officials.
It is reported that Rumeen Farhana's personal assistant, Zakir Hossain, is preparing to submit a written complaint to senior police officials regarding the incident. However, a clearer picture of the actual situation will emerge once detailed statements are obtained from both the police and the lawmaker.
