No Bangladeshi citizens have been reported killed or injured in the severe disaster along the Nepal-Tibet border. Multiple Bangladeshi diplomats stationed at the Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu confirmed this information on Thursday afternoon. Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman has sought the cooperation of the Nepal government to inform Bangladesh if any untoward incident comes to light.
As the Kathmandu-Pokhara highway was temporarily closed yesterday, some Bangladeshi citizens were stranded. Later, once road connectivity was restored, they reached their destinations safely. The embassy maintains all forms of communication with the Nepal government and is coordinating the delivery of any assistance announced by the Bangladesh government and related consultations between the two countries.
According to BBC reports, 177 people have died so far in the severe natural disaster that struck the Nepal-Tibet border yesterday. Reuters reports that 1,500 people are currently missing in Nepal and Tibet, among whom more than 800 are foreign tourists.
Anandabazar Patrika reports that since the severe disaster in Nepal, it has not been possible to contact many tourists from Kolkata and various other districts of the state. According to the West Bengal government's estimates, 36 people remain untraced so far. Anxiety and apprehension are growing in their families every moment, with many waiting in anticipation for a call from their loved ones. The disaster struck the Nepal-China border on Wednesday, and due to a massive flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River, many villages have suffered devastating damage. Over 160 deaths have been reported so far, with many missing, including numerous Indian nationals who had traveled to Nepal on a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar.
Tourists from several districts of the state, including Kolkata, Hooghly, South 24 Parganas, Paschim Bardhaman, and Darjeeling, are on the missing list. Family members claim that it is impossible to contact any of them, and they are spending their days in deep anxiety, worrying about where and how their loved ones are.
