When you visit doctors, they often ask to see your tongue. Do you know why? Just as the tongue is the biggest reliance for understanding whether food is good or bad, the tongue can also be used to understand whether the body is healthy or not. When the normal color of the tongue changes, it can be a sign of various problems. Often a whitish coating is seen on the tongue. Why does this happen? Firstly, if you do not take proper care of oral health, a white coating forms on the tongue. The tongue also turns white if there is a lack of water in the body. Regular consumption of alcohol and smoking also causes a white layer to form on the tongue. However, this problem can be eliminated by being careful about a few things.
1. Even though they brush twice a day, many people do not clean their tongue. You must clean your tongue regularly. Clean your tongue first, then brush.
2. Do not let the inside of your mouth stay dry. Drink 1-2 glasses of water as soon as you wake up in the morning. Then make a habit of drinking water every hour. Bacteria breed precisely when the inside of the mouth remains dry. So be careful.
3. You can do oil pulling 2-3 times a week. Take coconut oil or sesame oil in your mouth, gargle for 10 minutes and spit it out. Then wash your mouth with lukewarm water.
If the whitish coating on the tongue does not diminish even after doing all these, along with symptoms like bad breath, tongue pain, or mouth ulcers, then you must consult a doctor. Because in the case of some diseases, white spots appear on the tongue. Find out when you should be cautious.
1. Leukoplakia: Although the name sounds complex, the problem is usually not very alarming. This problem occurs due to excessive growth of surface cells on the tongue or oral cavity. These cells mix with a protein called keratin to form a white coating on the tongue. But it is not possible to say for sure why this happens. Although it usually heals on its own, sometimes leukoplakia can pose a risk of oral cancer. Therefore, it is best to consult a doctor in time.
2. Oral Thrash: A type of fungus called Candida yeast lives inside the mouth. An excessive overgrowth of this fungus can also create a whitish coating on the tongue. In scientific language, this is called oral thrash. Although it is generally not a serious problem, oral thrash can weaken the body's immune system. Therefore, a deeper problem may be hidden behind it.
3. Syphilis: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease. A white-colored coating on the tongue is one of the main symptoms of this disease. Generally, the bacteria of this disease spread to the body of a healthy person through unprotected sexual intercourse. If not treated in time, this disease can become severe. Therefore, if any such problem appears on the tongue, you must go to the doctor without delay.
