Special Correspondent 2 weeks ago Sunday, 11 October 2026 3611 views

The event was organized by the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District in collaboration with the Transcultural Mental Health Centre, Translation and Interpreting Service, Advance Diversity Services, and the Kogarah Storehouse.

This year's theme was that small connections and sincere relationships can also have a far-reaching positive impact on people's lives. The main message of the theme was how to maintain mental well-being by building a good relationship with oneself and strengthening relationships with family, friends, and others in the wider community.

Keeping this thought in mind, joyful activities for family members, along with mental health discussions and awareness sessions, were organized on the same day. Through this, participants not only had the opportunity to spend a joyful time with others in the community but also learned various ways to build a positive relationship with themselves and stay mentally well.

During the Family Fun Day segment of the event, jewelry repair stalls and potted plant stalls created special interest among the attendees. The spontaneous presence of participants with their families made the event even more vibrant. Additionally, child-minding services were arranged for looking after children, allowing parents to comfortably participate in the mental health sessions.

One of the main attractions of the event was a lived-experience story shared by an individual regarding mental health. Their experience sparked hope, courage, and inspiration among the participating attendees. This segment carried special significance in highlighting the importance of overcoming mental health-related challenges and moving forward on the path to recovery through personal experience.

In addition, a trained mindfulness facilitator conducted pranayama and grounding exercises. Attendees participated sincerely in this activity of conscious breathing and focusing attention on the present moment. The exercise highlighted the importance of mental peace, self-awareness, and paying attention to one's own feelings.

The active presence and spontaneous participation of the attendees at the event reflected their deep commitment to raising mental health awareness within the community and ensuring collective well-being.

Through this initiative by the organizers, it has once again emerged that mental well-being is not just a personal matter; sincere communication and mutual cooperation with family, friends, and people in the community are also important parts of it. Small, sincere connections can build trust, empathy, and optimism among people, which plays a role in building a healthy and supportive community in the long run.
