US President Donald Trump has mocked the Iranian presidency, stating, "Iran is the only country where nobody wants to be president." He made this remark on Friday while addressing an election rally in Dalton, Georgia.
The rally was held in a hangar at the Dalton Municipal Airport as part of campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the upcoming November 3 midterm elections. While speaking about Iran, Trump ridiculed the country's leadership.
On stage, he hypothetically gestured to ask several people whether they were interested in the presidential post. During this time, the crowd's reaction to his comment was largely lukewarm.
Masoud Pezeshkian has been serving as the President of Iran since 2024. Trump's remarks come at a time when Iran's nuclear program and the conflict between the country and the US are among the most discussed topics in international politics.
At the rally, Trump once again warned that Iran would never be allowed to build nuclear weapons. Reports noted that about seven months ago, the US and Israel launched a war against Tehran with the objective of destroying its nuclear program.
Meanwhile, Trump's remarks and political campaign style ahead of the upcoming midterm elections have also been controversial. Human rights activists and various rights organizations have criticized some of his comments, stating that such remarks could demean Muslims, immigrants, and ethnic minorities.
Earlier this year, a report published by the Muslim civil rights organization Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) stated that the rise of Islamophobia in the US during Trump's second term is driven by his harsh immigration policies and his role in suppressing pro-Palestinian protests.
