At least 10 people, including a police officer, were injured in a clash between two factions of the BNP in Munshiganj's Sreenagar upazila during the party's founding anniversary celebrations. The incident took place on Tuesday around 10:30 AM in the Sreenagar Zamzam Tower area. The injured are receiving treatment at the upazila health complex and various other hospitals.
According to eyewitnesses, one faction had a pre-scheduled victory procession program starting from the Zamzam Tower area at 11:00 AM on Tuesday to mark the party's founding anniversary. Leaders and activists began gathering there in the morning. At that time, supporters of another faction arrived at the scene, leading to an argument. At one point, a clash broke out between the two groups, during which motorcycles were vandalized and bricks were thrown. In trying to bring the situation under control, 10 people, including Sreenagar Police Station's Inspector (Investigation) Milton Datta, were injured.
It was further learned that the clash occurred between the supporters of central BNP Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sorafat Ali Sapu and Munshiganj-1 Member of Parliament Sheikh Abdullah. Among the injured, four are currently admitted for treatment at the upazila health complex.
District Police Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Anwar Parvez said that upon receiving news of the argument and tension between the two groups, police went to the scene. Later, both groups were dispersed. While bringing the situation under control, Inspector (Investigation) Milton Datta sustained an injury to his eye.
