A complaint has been filed in a Dhaka court against 14 individuals associated with the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation on charges of fraud, assault, and demanding extortion from a July warrior. The plaintiff, July warrior Gias Uddin, filed the application on Tuesday in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam. Yamin Mia, the lawyer representing the plaintiff, stated that the court recorded the plaintiff's statement and directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the allegations.
The individuals named as defendants in the application are: Iftekhar Hossain, Senior Verification Officer of the Foundation; Executive Members Sabrina Afroze Sevanti, Saidur Rahman Shahid, Mehedi Hasan Prince, Sagar, Afzalur Rahman Sayeem, Harun Or Rashid, Kamrul Hossain, Alif, Zahid, Momenuzzaman Dipu, Sajjad Mostafa, Fatema Afrin Payel, and Yasin Molla.
According to the allegations in the application, Gias Uddin went to the July Smriti Foundation to collect a check as a July warrior. Not receiving it, he went to the NCP office in Banglamotor and informed Foundation General Secretary Sarjis Alam, July movement leaders Hasnat Abdullah, Tasnim Jara, and Snigdha about the matter. They assured him that if he went to the July Foundation, they would give him the check. However, the defendants procrastinated and told him, 'Do not come today, come tomorrow.'
Later, on May 3 of last year, the plaintiff went to the Foundation to collect the check. The defendants informed him that he could only take the check after cashing it from the bank if he gave 50 percent of the 300,000 taka check amount, which is 150,000 taka. However, Gias Uddin refused to pay the extortion money. The defendants then cunningly took him into a secret room. Once inside, Prince and Sagar held his two arms while Shahid and Sayeem punched, slapped, and kicked him. When he was pushed against a nearby wall, his head hit an iron rod. As a result, he lost consciousness. Afterward, the defendants revived him.
At that point, Gias Uddin saw that blood was flowing from his body. When he shouted and cried, Shahid, Sayeem, and Kamrul punched and slapped him in an attempt to force him out. Later, Harun and Kamrul placed him in front of the Foundation's elevator. Afterward, his son took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for primary medical treatment. Gias Uddin went to the police station to file a case. However, the police authorities delayed and did not take the case, subsequently advising him to file a case in court.
