State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam has announced that five types of elections under the Local Government Division will be organized within the current fiscal year. These elections are city corporation, municipality, district council, upazila parishad, and union parishad elections. He made this remark while speaking to journalists on Tuesday morning after inspecting the beautification work at the Bhanga Bridge area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar.
The State Minister said the government is firmly determined to organize the local government elections. Approximately 6 billion taka has been allocated in the local government division budget to organize these elections in the current fiscal year. The Election Commission has been asked to take necessary preparations. Once the commission's preparations are completed, it will be determined which election will be held first.
Regarding the country's development, Mir Shahe Alam said that expected development has not taken place over the past 20 years. The current government has taken charge amidst a fragile economic situation. Despite this, the government is moving development activities forward and working on beautifying various areas. He said that long-standing garbage on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway has been cleaned and various species of trees have been planted there. Initiatives will be taken to clean garbage, plant trees, and beautify areas across the country in phases where garbage exists. The State Minister further informed that initiatives will also be taken to implement Aminbazar and Ashulia municipalities. At this time, Dhaka District Commissioner Farida Khanam, Savar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Saiful Islam, and other related officials were present.
