Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for the first time since the latter assumed office as President. The meeting took place at Bangabhaban on Tuesday at 3 PM. During the meeting, the Prime Minister briefed the President about his recent visit to the United States, his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, and his meetings with heads of state and government of various countries and representatives of international organizations during the tour.
The matter of the meeting was confirmed around 3 PM on Tuesday by the President's Press Secretary Sarwar Alam.
During his visit to the United States, alongside participating in the UN General Assembly session, the Prime Minister held meetings with heads of state and government of various countries, the UN Secretary-General, and senior representatives of international economic and development partner institutions. He informed the President about the various aspects of these meetings.
Meanwhile, the President extended his sincere congratulations to the Prime Minister for his address at the UN General Assembly session. He described the Prime Minister's speech as 'visionary, resolute, and guiding.'
The President stated that the speech reflected the national interests and hopes and aspirations of the people of Bangladesh while also clearly presenting Bangladesh's stance on important global issues.
He further stated that this visit played an important role in further consolidating and strengthening Bangladesh's position in the international arena as well as protecting public interest. Furthermore, it made a significant contribution to expanding and strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations.
On the other hand, the President's Press Secretary stated that various issues related to national and state interests were also discussed between the President and the Prime Minister during the meeting.
The President sincerely thanked the Prime Minister for coming to Bangabhaban to meet him.
Earlier, upon arriving at Bangabhaban at 3 PM, the President welcomed the Prime Minister. Later, the President's military secretary, secretary, press secretary, and other senior officials of the office were introduced to the Prime Minister.
