Special Correspondent 3 weeks ago Sunday, 4 October 2026 2021 views

Investigations are currently underway against the Awami League (activities banned) for alleged crimes against humanity as a political organization or entity. However, International Crimes Tribunal Prosecutor Gazi M H Tamim stated at this moment that it cannot be specified precisely when or at what time that investigation will end. He made these remarks in response to journalists' questions at the tribunal premises on Sunday (October 4) afternoon.

Gazi M H Tamim stated that the matter of allegations of crimes against humanity against the Awami League as an organization falls under the jurisdiction of the investigation agency. If primary truth of the allegations is found upon the conclusion of the investigation, there is an opportunity to take subsequent legal steps.

Earlier, on July 5, Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam had stated that the investigation of allegations of crimes against humanity against the Awami League as a political party was underway. If primary truth of the allegations is found after the investigation, necessary measures will be taken.

Discussions are already ongoing in the political and legal arenas regarding the demand for trial of the Awami League as a party and the matter of the investigation. Consequently, attention is now focused on the next steps of the investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal regarding the investigation and potential trial process against the party as an organization.
