To eradicate drugs, Dhaka-6 Member of Parliament Ishraque Hossain intends to take the initiative to establish a new organization to build social resistance with the cooperation of the local residents. The recently resigned State Minister for Liberation War Affairs has announced plans to involve local residents in these activities and work in coordination with the administration and local police stations.
He shared this plan in a status update on his verified Facebook page around 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 21.
In his Facebook post, Ishraque Hossain stated that he wants to advance the activities of building social resistance against drugs involving the residents of the Dhaka-6 constituency. For this purpose, he plans to form an organization consisting of ordinary local people. This organization will work by assisting the local administration as well as taking cooperation from them.
According to Ishraque, it is not possible for any single agency to eradicate drugs in this densely populated area without involving ordinary people. Therefore, he is emphasizing the assurance of the participation of local residents in anti-drug activities.
In addition to building resistance against drugs, the Member of Parliament has mentioned taking initiatives to prevent theft, robbery, snatching, and extortion. His post noted that every step to suppress these crimes will be taken in coordination with the police station.
Meanwhile, Ishraque has expressed apprehension that this initiative of his might be hindered. He alleged that some newspapers, online media, social media pages, and other mass media might try to disrupt this activity. Furthermore, he expressed fear that individuals involved in the drug trade may also oppose the initiative.
However, this Member of Parliament from Dhaka-6 expressed his determination to move forward with the activities ignoring these obstacles. Reassuring the local residents and voters, he said that except for death destined by Allah, no media group or criminal can stop him.
In the same post, he also mentioned plans to build a new trend of media involving a pro-Bangladesh, talented, and patriotic young generation.
Notably, on Monday, October 19, Ishraque Hossain resigned from the post of State Minister for Liberation War Affairs. At a press conference at the Press Club, he stated that he voluntarily sought relief from his duties and the Prime Minister consented to it.
Earlier, Ishraque participated in an anti-drug operation in a slum adjacent to the railway tracks in the Gandaria area of the capital. At that time, a firearm was seen in his hand. Later, when a video of the operation published on his Facebook ID spread on social media, discussion and criticism started over the issue. Amidst this, he announced his plan to establish a new organization to build social resistance against drugs.
However, Ishraque Hossain did not provide details about when the organization will be formed, what its structure will be, and how its activities will be conducted.
