Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area Forms Over Bay of Bengal, May Intensify Into Cyclone

The low-pressure area formed over the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal has turned into a well-marked low, according to the Department of Meteorology, which stated that it could intensify into a cyclone.

At 6:00 AM on Saturday, the well-marked low was positioned over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, and it is expected to move in a westerly and north-westerly direction.

Meteorological office sources indicate that the low-pressure system could turn into a depression by Saturday and into a deep depression over the next one to two days. If conditions remain unchanged, it may transform into a cyclone on October 27 or 28.

The cyclone is more likely to move toward the coast of Andhra Pradesh in India, reducing the risk of a direct and major impact on Bangladesh. However, it may cause heavy rainfall in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Khulna regions. Sources mention that local cautionary signal number 3 may be issued for the northern Bay of Bengal due to the depression.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay of Bengal have been advised not to venture into the deep sea until further notice.

According to the meteorological department's forecast, rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds may occur in a few places over the Chattogram division during the 24 hours starting from 9:00 AM on Saturday, while weather across the rest of the country is expected to remain mainly dry.

On Saturday, the country's highest temperature was recorded at 35.6 degrees Celsius in Sandwip and Ambagan of Chattogram, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 17.7 degrees Celsius in Tetulia.
