An incident of heated argument occurred between Brahmanbaria-2 independent lawmaker Rumin Farhana and Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manjur Kader Bhuiyan. The incident took place on Thursday evening inside the OC's room at the police station. At that time, leaders and activists accompanying the lawmaker were also seen engaging in heated conversations. Multiple videos of the incident have spread across social media.
Supporters of the lawmaker stated that the dispute originated from allegations that Rumin Farhana and her personal assistant's phone calls were not answered and that security was not provided. Around 7:30 PM on Thursday, Rumin went to the police station along with her leaders and activists.
In the circulated videos, Rumin and the individuals with her are seen sitting in the OC's room and questioning him about various matters. At one point, the lawmaker accused the OC of taking money from brick kilns, earth-cutting, and sand extraction. Amidst the situation, the OC called the Superintendent of Police to inform him about the matter and expressed fears of a mob being created inside the room.
Regarding the incident, Rumin Farhana told the media that she had gone to the police station with various allegations against the OC. She also took a list regarding these matters, but the OC could not provide any satisfactory answers. She alleged that while police provided security in Ashuganj and Nasirnagar during Durga Puja, she was not provided security in Sarail. Her personal assistant called 12 times without getting a response from the OC. Later, she was told to arrange her own security.
On the other hand, OC Manjur Kader Bhuiyan alleged that Rumin Farhana came to the police station with hundreds of leaders and activists and created a commotion and instability. He claimed that overall security arrangements centered around the Puja had been taken; however, demanding a separate gunman for the lawmaker's personal security was a different issue. It was not possible to keep an entire group with her.
The OC told journalists that Rumin Farhana used to pressure him not to arrest leaders and activists of the Awami League (activities banned). Because of this, Awami League leaders and activists are not being arrested properly.
