The relentless deadly grip of dengue shows no sign of stopping in the country. The list of fatalities grows longer every day, alongside an increasing pressure of patients in hospitals. In the past 24 hours, another 11 people have died from dengue. Over the same period, 2,071 new patients have been admitted to hospitals. With this, the death toll from dengue this year has risen to 400. Meanwhile, a total of 128,237 patients have been hospitalized with the infection since the beginning of the year.

This information was released in a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday, October 27. According to the release, the new patients were admitted to hospitals during the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM. Currently, 6,415 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals across the country. On the other hand, a total of 122,422 infected individuals have recovered and been discharged from hospitals so far.

Highest Infections in Dhaka Division

Among the patients hospitalized with dengue in the last 24 hours, the highest number, 899, are in Dhaka Division. In addition, 250 patients were admitted in Khulna Division, 241 in Chattogram Division, 229 in Rajshahi Division, 217 in Barishal Division, 97 in Mymensingh Division, 112 in Rangpur Division, and 26 in Sylhet Division.

Statistics from the Directorate General of Health Services indicate that the transmission of dengue persists across various regions of the country. With a massive number of patients being admitted to hospitals every day, pressure is mounting on medical services. At the same time, the death toll reaching 400 has brought the alarming nature of the situation to the forefront.

Effective Measures Urgent for Prevention

Public health experts are emphasizing the destruction of Aedes mosquito breeding grounds and the removal of stagnant water to curb the spread of dengue. It is crucial to regularly clean stagnant water around homes, rooftops, under-construction buildings, and surrounding areas. In addition, if fever occurs, it should not be neglected, and medical consultation is necessary.

To halt this continuous trend of dengue deaths, it is essential to intensify mosquito control operations, ensure rapid identification of infected individuals, and provide timely treatment. Alongside raising public awareness, coordinated initiatives by relevant authorities can reduce the risk of infection and fatalities.
